WOUNDED BIG GAME RECOVERY in Central Maryland

At Kold Nose Tracking, we are hunters helping hunters. We've been there - that sinking feeling when you can’t find your game and you're left wondering if your shot was true or if the animal is out there suffering. It’s a feeling we know all too well, and it’s exactly why we do what we do.

Our mission is to provide ethical, reliable recovery of wounded big game using trained blood-tracking dogs. Whether you’re after a trophy buck, a once-in-a-lifetime bear, or a young fawn, every animal matters. Our goal is to ensure that no track is left untried and no question left unanswered.

Sometimes, success is recovery. Other times, it's the peace of mind that comes from knowing you simply missed. Either way, we’re here to help you track with confidence, respect the game, and honor the hunt.

Meet the Team

With a professional background in Forest Ecosystem Management, Thomas brings both scientific knowledge and deep field experience to every track. He has been hunting for over 20 years, beginning his journey in the Black Forest of Germany. During his apprenticeship, Thomas had the rare opportunity to learn from seasoned trackers who operated a regional blood tracking station known for its exceptional hounds. These dogs didn’t just recover wounded game; they brought hunters clarity and peace of mind, confirming clean misses or locating animals that would have otherwise been lost.

Those early years made a lasting impression, and Thomas always dreamed of one day handling a tracking dog himself. After years of work and travel that made it impossible, he finally had the chance to pursue that goal. With the right opportunity and a stable home base, he found the perfect dog and dedicated himself to training.

Today, Thomas is excited to put that experience and his dog to work helping others. When he’s not tracking or working his day job, he enjoys life with his family on their small farm.

From the moment he arrived as a puppy, Pretzel showed an exceptional natural instinct for tracking. With a keen nose and high drive, he began training early to build the stamina and focus needed for working cold, challenging tracks. At just 7 months old, Pretzel passed the UBT-1 evaluation with flying colors. Shortly after, he also passed the ABTA Started Level On-Lead test.

Off duty, Pretzel enjoys long naps, chasing rabbits, and barking at the mailman, but when it's time to work, he’s all business.
